European Bildung Network – online festival 2021
Responding to the theme of the year: “Bildung, unlocking the spirit; how do we do it?”, Jonathan Rowson, Pippa Evans and Mark Vernon offer insights on bildung from their practices, which range across education, improvisation, and mental health.
The speakers are with the UK group, Perspectiva, and are also co-organisers of The Realisation Festival, which will take place in July at St Giles House, Dorset.
“Realisation” is one way of translating bildung into English and the themes of beauty, imagination and calling have arisen from reflecting on the work of the Third Earl of Shaftesbury, who lived at St Giles House, and was seminal in founding the idea of bildung. The roundtable discussion, with questions, will last 1 hour.
