Life off earth - religion and aliens

The Battle of Ideas is coming up again. I'm taking part in an event asking what is the point of atheism.
I've just seen this film of a conversation I took part in last year, using the possibility of intelligent aliens to reflect on what it might be to be human.

The trouble with humankind in this time and place is that it lacks any access to any kind of profundity of experience re what we are as human beings, and thus by extension everything else, including The Divine Reality. This is especially the case with the advocates of atheism and agnosticism, and indeed with all forms of Protestant Christianity.
One can peruse the now many Christian blogs and websites both Catholic and Protestant and not even find a jot or hint of profundity amongst all the earnest talk/blather about the Bible, the Biblical God-idea, "Jesus" and the now fashionable reinterpretations of the significance of "Paul" - even his presumed entirely bogus universal significance.
