Is this the nation's church?

Ironic that on the same day the bishops were in the House of Lords defending the right to be homophobic, the statisticians were telling the world that Britain no longer much cares for homophobia - a particularly serious irony for the established church, which would otherwise claim to speak for and to the nation.

Could God be prosecuted under the Human Rights Act for forbidding heavenly entry to homosexuals? I can imagine the sign on the Pearly Gates - No Gays Here!
This seems to be the Church protecting it's right not to hire people. Is the situation with regard to hiring and firing people working OK at present? Then if so why fix it? (Bishop of York )
deacon_23 - plainly it is broken and thus needs fixing.
Chairman Bill: could you expand on your comment? I think the Bishop of York's point made some sense - that the law already covers such cases. What exactly needs fixing?
OTOH, the C of E probably "employs" a higher proportion of gay people than most other institutions in the UK anyway.
Phil C - my mistake. I agree.
